The Southern Indiana Center for the Arts

The Southern Indiana Center for the Arts in Seymour is a working arts center and offers a continuing variety of cultural and educational programs, including art and pottery classes, rotating and permanent art exhibits, lectures, music entertainment and much more. The Center was made possible through the generosity of singer, songwriter and artist John Mellencamp.

The gallery at the Southern Indiana Center for the Arts features rotating exhibits by various artists. The gallery also has the world’s only public display of a private collection of paintings by John Mellencamp.

Child PotteryThe amphitheater for the performing arts, located at the Center, hosts many concerts and other stage productions throughout the year. Friday Night Live is featuring during the summer months at the Center and draws a large crowd. The crafts and pottery barn is a unique experience and guests can learn to “throw a pot.”

The Conner Museum of Antique Printing is a working print shop of period presses of the 1800s. It displays a hands-on timeline from the stone table to stone lithography. Guests can even take home examples of Gutenberg’s type. Special tours can be arranged.

Annual events at SICA include Youth and Teen Summer Art camps and Friday Night Live, held throughout the summer. Various fundraisers, classes, art experiences and events are held on the SICA grounds throughout the year. For more information, call 812-522-2278 or visit www.soinart.com.

The Jackson County Community Theatre

Jackson County Community TheatreThe Jackson County Community Theatre is located at 121 West Walnut Street in Brownstown.

The JCCT is a local, not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing quality, live theatre productions for Jackson County and surrounding communities. The actors and crew are members of the community.

The first JCCT production was in 1971. The Royal-Off-the-Square Theatre building was acquired in 1974. Many changes have been made throughout the years and the theatre now boasts additional seating and an extensive lobby area.

Other community events are held at the theatre, including concerts and theatre camps for children.

JCCT has four performances each year, including a dinner theatre held each winter.
