Vallonia and Driftwood Township is rich in history and was the first settlement in Jackson County. The Fort Vallonia Museum, located on the grounds of the previous fort, built in 1810, helps preserve that history. The museum features everything from pictures, newspaper clippings and school memorabilia to artifacts found in Driftwood Township. The museum is located at 1978 S Main Street in Vallonia. It is open from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays from Memorial Day to Labor Day and by appointment. 812-358-3286
Fort Vallonia Days, celebrated each October, helps fund the museum and was started in 1969.
