The final weekend in August is packed full of fun! There’s a lot to do over the next few days in Jackson County before we turn the calendar to September!

Thursday, August 24

Power of the Praise Bands – The city of Seymour Parks and Recreation Department will host the Power of the Praise Bands at 6:30 p.m. August 24, at Crossroads Community Park in downtown Seymour. Bands from local churches will be featured throughout the evening.


Friday, August 25

History Center Rummage Sale – The Jackson County History Center will host its rummage sale from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. August 25, at the center, 105 North Sugar Street, Brownstown.

Live music at Harmony Park – Exotic Species will play at 6:30 p.m. August 25, at Harmony Park outside the Brooklyn Pizza Co., 753 West Second Street, Seymour.

Live music at Poplar Street – Ruben Guthrie will play at 7 p.m. August 25, at Poplar Street Restaurant, 513 South Poplar Street, Seymour.

Live music at Rails – Tim Consley will play at 7 p.m. August 25, at Rails Craft Brew & Eatery, 114 St. Louis Avenue, Seymour.

Live music at the Eagles – Dwight Hendrix will play at 7:30 p.m. August 25, at the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, 122 East Second Street, Seymour.

Live music at On the Rox – Sy and Albert will play at 8 p.m. August 25, at On the Rox , 214 South Broadway Street, Seymour.


Saturday, August 26

Seymour Area Farmers Market – The Seymour Area Farmers Market will operate from 8 a.m. to noon August 26, at the farmers market parking lot off Walnut Street.

History Center Rummage Sale – The Jackson County History Center will host its rummage sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. August 26, at the center, 105 North Sugar Street, Brownstown.

Dog Days Dog Show – The Humane Society of Jackson County will host the annual Dog Days Dog Show at 8:30 a.m. August 26, in the Keach Parking Lot, 402 North Walnut Street, Seymour. The event starts with registration and it’s only $3 per dog. Each registrant will receive a goody bag and be entered into door prizes.

Crossroads Duathlon –  The Crossroads Duathlon will be held at 8:30 a.m. August 26, at the Freeman Field Recreation Area, 2476 State Road 11, Seymour. Click here for more information and to sign up.

Bake Sale –The Freetown Freedom Festival committee will offer a bake sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. August 26, at the Dollar General in Freetown, 6705 North State Road 135, Freetown. Proceeds go towards adding electric to the pavilion at the Pershing Township Park where the festival takes place. Click here to donate a baked good.

Guided Hike – Volunteers will lead a guided hike in the Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge “Fern Valley” at 9 a.m., August 26, at the refuge in Seymour. The hike will begin at the refuge visitor center and will be brief.

Freeman Army Airfield Museum – The Freeman Army Airfield Museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. August 26, at 1035 A Avenue, Seymour.

Moose Lodge Poker Run – The Seymour Moose Lodge Poker Run will be at 10 a.m. August 26 at the lodge, 100 East Sixth Street, Seymour. Proceeds will benefit the Seymour Police Department K-9 program. The event will include raffles, food, music and more.

Golf Scramble – The Seymour Evening Lions Club will host its annual golf scramble at 1 p.m., August 26, at Shadowood Golf Course, 333 North Sandy Creek Drive, Seymour.

Fall Paint Party – READ Jackson County will host a Fall Paint Party from 2 to 5 p.m. August 26, at the Jackson County Learning Center, 323 Dupont Drive, Seymour. It’s instructor-led and no experience is required with all supplies provided. Snacks and tea will be provided. Tickets are $35 and limited to 20 people. Race – Brownstown Speedway race will feature Topless ILMS Pro Late Models plus Super Stocks, Pure Stocks, Hornets, Crown Vics.   Click here for the website for all details and tickets.

Live music at Chateau de Pique – Cole Shine will play at 6 p.m. August 26, at Chateau de Pique Winery & Brewery, 6361 North County Road 760E, Seymour.

Live music at Poplar Street – Soul Express will play at 7 p.m. August 26, at Poplar Street Restaurant, 513 South Poplar Street, Seymour.

Live music at Side Track’d – Forrest Turner will play at 7 p.m. August 26, at Side Track’d, 1115 West Spring Street, Brownstown.

Live music at Rails – Kyle Schryer will play at 7 p.m. August 26, at Rails Craft Brew & Eatery, 114 St. Louis Avenue, Seymour.

Live music at Brewskies Downtown – Retro Betty will play at 7 p.m. August 26, at Brewskies Downtown, 117 East Second Street, Seymour.


Sunday, August 27

Wacker Open – The third annual Wacker Open will be at 1 p.m. August 27, at Shadowood Golf Course, 333 North Sandy Creek Drive, Seymour. It’s a four-player scramble format, $65 per player. Registration begins at noon.  Click here to sign up. Information: Shane Heck, 812-341-0126.

Cattlemen’s Classic – The Jackson County Cattlemen’s Association will host the Cattlemen’s Classic golf scramble at 1 p.m. August 27, at Hickory Hills Golf Course, 1509 State Road 135, Brownstown. Nature Explorer’s Club – The Nature Explorer’s Club will host its fall season class at 5 p.m. August 30, at the Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge, Seymour. The group meets each week for 12 weeks with a different theme, story, snack, song, activity, hike, journal, and play. Click here to sign up.
