It’s getting closer and closer to Christmas, and the seasonal fun continues here in Jackson County! There’s all kinds of things to do to make this season the best one yet!

The Jackson County Visitor Center has you covered for all events being offered. Here’s Your Guide to the Weekend!

Thursday, December 9

Dine United – Blondie’s Pizzeria in Brownstown will offer its Dine United campaign where a portion of sales will go to Jackson County United Way.

Building a Polar Bear – The Jackson County Public Library is hosting a Build a Polar Bear workshop at 3:30 and 4:30 p.m. at the location in Medora. It’s limited to ages 2-12. Register online.

Ugly Christmas Sweater Party – The Jackson County Young Professionals will have an Ugly Christmas Sweater Party from 4 to 7 p.m. at Vat & Barrel. The event is open to members and spouses. Contact the Jackson County Chamber to join.

City Hall Open House – The city of Seymour will host an open house from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. for its newly renovated City Hall building and public art exhibit. Free punch and cookies will be available.


Friday, December 10

Dine United – Townhouse Cafe will offer its Dine United campaign where a portion of sales will go to Jackson County United Way.

Coffee & Canvas – 1852 Café will host its second Coffee and Canvas at 5:30 p.m. at the café. Tickets are $25 and includes a drink and meal. Registration deadline: December 3.

Live Nativity – Immanuel Lutheran Church in Seymour will host an interactive Live Nativity Scene from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church. Learn more by visiting their website and clicking here.

Wonderland of Lights – Tiemeyer’s Farm Market will offer its Wonderland of Lights hayride at 6 p.m. Go through the Christmas light display and be dropped off for a visit with Santa in his workshop! Reservations can be made by calling 812-358-5618. Cost is $10 per person. Click here to watch a video of the ride and lights.

‘A Christmas Carol’ – Jackson County Community Theatre will present ‘A Christmas Carol’ with a show at 7:30 p.m. at the Royal-Off-the-Square Theatre in Brownstown. Click here to order tickets.

Kid Rock Tribute – Kid Kentucky will perform at 8 p.m. at On the Rox. 


Saturday, December 11

Visitor Center Gift Shop – The Jackson County Visitor Center Gift Shop will be open from 9 a.m. to noon. Come see all the great local products and stock up on gift cards from local businesses.

Train & Toy Show – The Seymour Museum Center will host a Train and Toy Show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday December 11 and 18. Come view the model trains running the entire length of the event. There will be a drawing every hour and a train set will be given away at 3 p.m. (must be present to win). There also will be vintage toys on display. Watch a video of the show by clicking here.

Pictures with Santa – The Humane Society of Jackson County will host its annual Pictures with Santa from 9a.m. To noon at Paw-N-Klaws Pet Parlor. It’s $20 for two 5×7 inch photos taken by local photographer Emma Zumhingst. Proceeds benefit the Humane Society of Jackson County.

Holiday Open House – The Muscatatuck Wildlife Society will host a Holiday Open House from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Wildlife Bookstore at Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge. The event will take place in the courtyard outside the refuge visitor center. Items will be nature books, field guides, children’s books and activities, jewelry, puppets and Duck Stamps. This event will be canceled in the event of rain.

Santa – Santa will be in the Santa House from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Crossroads Community Park in downtown Seymour.

Festival of Trees – The Jackson County History Center will be open from 1 to 6 p.m. for the Festival of Trees. Stop by and see everyone’s tree decorated for the “Favorite Animal” theme. Groups may also make reservations by calling 812-358-2118.

Live Music at Seymour Brewing Co. – Mike Staublin will play at 3:30 p.m. for the mug club party. Mugs go on sale at 2:30 p.m.

Christmas at the Lake – Starve Hollow State Recreation Area will host a Christmas at the Lake event from 4 to 8 p.m. There will be Christmas lights and crafts at the forest education center.

Euchre Tournament & Soup Supper –  Pershing Township Lions Club will sponsor a Soup Supper and Euchre Tournament at 4:30 p.m. at the Senior Citizens Center (old fire station) located at 6807 N Union Street in Freetown. The meal will begin at 4:30 and the tournament will begin at 6:00 p.m.  Cost is $5 for the meal and $5 to participate in the tournament. For more information contact Sharon at 812-528-1507.

Community Caroling – Trinity United Methodist Church will offer a Community Caroling event at 6 p.m. at Crossroads Community Park. Meet at the church, 333 South Chestnut Street, grab a lantern (yours or theirs) and walk to the park together at 5:40 p.m. Join in for Christmas carols and stay for hot chocolate and cookies. Music provided by Georgiann Coons.

Monday, December 13

Santa – The Jackson County Chamber will host its Santa Brownstown Tour where Santa will ride through town on a firetruck.


Tuesday, December 14

Photos with Santa – Kayla Stice State Farm Insurance Agent will host a night of photos with Santa. Those with special needs are invited from 4 to 5 p.m. where there will be allergen-friendly cookies, no flashing lights or loud music to accommodate their needs. The general public can get a photo with Santa Claus from 5 to 7 p.m.


Wednesday, December 15

Visitor Center Gift Shop – The visitor center gift will be open until 8 p.m.! Come by and get local items made by local people. Also, buy gift cards to local stores and restaurants!
