We’re now down to the final two months of 2021! Where did the time go? Good thing there’s plenty left to enjoy in Jackson County! Since this time of the year can be hectic, we have combined November and December into one guide so you can plan ahead! Get to shopping and supporting local this season!

 

Wednesday, December 1

Building a Polar Bear – The Jackson County Public Library is hosting a Build a Polar Bear workshop at 3:30 and 4:30 p.m. at the location in Crothersville. It’s limited to ages 2-12. Register online.

Dine United – Poplar Street Restaurant will offer its Dine United campaign where a portion of sales will go to Jackson County United Way.

Visitor Center Gift Shop – The visitor center gift will be open until 8 p.m.! Come by and get local items made by local people. Also, buy gift cards to local stores and restaurants!


Thursday, December 2

Dine United – The Fish Stand will offer its Dine United campaign where a portion of sales will go to Jackson County United Way.

Santa – Santa Claus and his sleigh will be at WJAA Radio 96.3 from 4 to 5 p.m. He will have coloring books and candy for kids.


Friday, December 3

Dine United – Mi Casa will offer its Dine United campaign where a portion of sales will go to Jackson County United Way.

Building a Polar Bear – The Jackson County Public Library is hosting a Build a Polar Bear workshop at 3:30 and 4:30 p.m. at the location in Crothersville. It’s limited to ages 2-12. Register online.

Christmas at Crossroads – Join the Jackson County Chamber at 6 p.m. for the Christmas at Crossroads! This event will feature live reindeer, Christmas caroling by The Point, hot cocoa, Southern Indiana Hispanic Services doughnut holes, a visit from Santa Claus and the lighting of the city’s Christmas tree!

Wonderland of Lights – Tiemeyer’s Farm Market will offer its Wonderland of Lights hayride at 6 p.m. Go through the Christmas light display and be dropped off for a visit with Santa in his workshop! ‘A Christmas Carol’ – Jackson County Community Theatre will present ‘A Christmas Carol’ with a show at 7:30 p.m. at the Royal-Off-the-Square Theatre in Brownstown. Click here to order tickets.

Medora Christmas Festival – The Medora Christmas Festival & Parade will host the Christmas tree lighting at 6 p.m. There will be hot chocolate, Christmas carols and more fun.


Saturday, December 4

Medora Christmas Festival – The Medora Christmas Festival & Parade will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be vendors, food, parade, entertainment and more. Click here for a guide.

Cookie Walk – The Immanuel Guild will host its Christmas Cookie Walk beginning at 9 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 605 South Walnut Street, Seymour. It’s $10 per box and you can pick from trays of homemade cookies. Enter the Fellowship Hall from the Walnut Street entrance.

Small Town Christmas Market – A variety of vendors and crafts will be found at the Small Town Christmas Market from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus, Seymour. Santa and The Grinch will make a stop between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Bring a new unwrapped toy valued at $5 or more and be entered into a drawing for items donated by the show’s vendors. Proceeds will help Toys for Tots.

Visitor Center Gift Shop – The Jackson County Visitor Center Gift Shop will be open from 9 a.m. to noon. Come see all the great local products and stock up on gift cards from local businesses.

Holiday Open House – The Muscatatuck Wildlife Society will host a Holiday Open House from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Wildlife Bookstore at Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge. The event will take place in the courtyard outside the refuge visitor center. Items will be nature books, field guides, children’s books and activities, jewelry, puppets and Duck Stamps. This event will be canceled in the event of rain.

December to Remember – Local artist Stacey Perry will lead a paint/craft event at the Magic of Books Bookstore. The first class is at 10 a.m. for ages five to nine, while the 3 p.m. class is for ages 10 and up. Spots are limited to 10 per class. Order tickets here.

Schneider Nursery – Join Schneider Nursery for a fun day by making crafts, decorating a “Charlie Brown” Christmas Tree, and enjoying the story and snacks. Ticket price also includes a digital download code for a professional photo taken by Marshall Memories. Standard tickets will receive 1 code, Sleigh Ride tickets will receive 2 codes. Santa – Santa will be in the Santa House from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Crossroads Community Park in downtown Seymour.

Holiday with The Horses – Reins to Recovery Inc. Therapeutic Riding Center will have a chance to visit with Santa from 1 to 4 p.m. and have their picture taken with him and also visit with the facility’s Reindeer and make a craft to take home. This is a freewill donation event open to the public. All money raised will go toward the care of the center’s therapy horses.

Meal – St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church is hosting its Fall Festival meal from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the church in Brownstown. It’s a free will donation and dine in or carry out.
The meal options are as follows:
One main (Tenderloin, Western, hot dog)
Two Sides (Mac and cheese, baked beans, loaded potato salad, strawberry pretzel salad)
One dessert (Coconut cream pie, cherry delight, chocolate chip cookies)

Ugly Christmas Sweater Party – The Jackson County Young Professionals will have an Ugly Christmas Sweater Party from 4 to 7 p.m. at Vat & Barrel. The event is open to members and spouses. Contact the Jackson County Chamber to join.


Friday, December 10

Dine United – Townhouse Cafe will offer its Dine United campaign where a portion of sales will go to Jackson County United Way.

Coffee & Canvas – 1852 Café will host its second Coffee and Canvas at 5:30 p.m. at the café. Tickets are $25 and includes a drink and meal. Registration deadline: December 3.

Saturday, December 11

Visitor Center Gift Shop – The Jackson County Visitor Center Gift Shop will be open from 9 a.m. to noon. Come see all the great local products and stock up on gift cards from local businesses.

Train & Toy Show – The Seymour Museum Center will host a Train and Toy Show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday December 11 and 18. Come view the model trains running the entire length of the event. There will be a drawing every hour and a train set will be given away at 3 p.m. (must be present to win). There also will be vintage toys on display.

Pictures with Santa – The Humane Society of Jackson County will host its annual Pictures with Santa at paw-N-Klaws Pet Parlor. It’s $20 for two 5×7 inch photos taken by local photographer Emma Zumhingst. Proceeds benefit the Humane Society of Jackson County.

Community Caroling – Trinity United Methodist Church will offer a Community Caroling event at 6 p.m. at Crossroads Community Park. Meet at the church, 333 South Chestnut Street, grab a lantern (yours or theirs) and walk to the park together at 5:40 p.m. Join in for Christmas carols and stay for hot chocolate and cookies. Music provided by Georgiann Coons.


Monday, December 13

Santa – The Jackson County Chamber will host its Santa Brownstown Tour where Santa will ride through town on a firetruck.


Tuesday, December 14

Photos with Santa – Kayla Stice State Farm Insurance Agent will host a night of photos with Santa. Those with special needs are invited from 4 to 5 p.m. where there will be allergen-friendly cookies, no flashing lights or loud music to accommodate their needs. The general public can get a photo with Santa Claus from 5 to 7 p.m.


Wednesday, December 15

Thursday, December 16

Hometown Christmas – The Brownstown Ewing Main Street Hometown Christmas will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The Jackson County History Center also will be open from 6 to 8 p.m. for its Festival of Trees.


Friday, December 17

Building a Polar Bear – The Jackson County Public Library is hosting a Build a Polar Bear workshop at 10:30 a.m. on Facebook live from the Seymour location. It’s limited to ages 2-12. Register online. Pick of of kits will begin December 10.

Wonderland of Lights – Tiemeyer’s Farm Market will offer its Wonderland of Lights hayride at 6 p.m. Go through the Christmas light display and be dropped off for a visit with Santa in his workshop! Jingle All the 5K – Seymour Main Street will host the Jingle All the 5K race at 8 a.m. downtown Seymour. Register on Indiana Timing.

Saturday, December 25 – Merry Christmas!

Deliver meals – A local group will again deliver meals to those in need on Christmas Day. Volunteers should meet at the Brooklyn Pizza Company around 9 a.m. and expect to make deliveries starting at 9:30 a.m. Monetary donations may be made at the Brooklyn Pizza Company or Bubba’s Place. Bottled water may also be donated at both locations.


Friday, December 31 – New Year’s Eve! 

New Year’s Eve Party – The Moose Lodge 418 in Seymour will have a New Year’s Eve Party with Soul Express performing.
