The calendar has turned another month, and September means the season will change. Fall is right around the corner and there is tons of fun planned throughout the month! Here’s what all is happening in September 2021.

Wednesday, September 1

Farmers Market – The Seymour Area Farmers Market Lite will be open from 8 a.m. to noon in the Walnut Street Parking Lot.


Friday, September 3

Live Music at Rails – Coot will perform from 6 to 8 p.m. at Rails Craft Brew and Eatery.

SHS Football – The Seymour High School Owls football team will host the Columbus East Olympians at 7 p.m. at Bulleit Stadium.

Live Music at the Eagles – Adam Crabtree will perform at 7 p.m. at the Fraternal Order of the Eagles.

Live Music at Harmony Park – Meat and Potatoes will play from 7 to 10 p.m. at Harmony Park.

Live Music at Poplar Street – Brad Treadway and Rich Hampton will perform at 7 p.m. at Poplar Street Restaurant.

‘New York’ – Actors Community Theater of Seymour will present ‘New York’ during a show at 7:30 p.m. Shows also are on schedule for September 4, 10, 12.

Movie Night – First Presbyterian Church is hosting a movie night as part of the Jackson County Chamber’s Stardust Movie Series. Tom & Jerry will start at sunset. The Rolling Pig Pin food truck will be there from 7 to 9 p.m.

Comedy Night – Seymour comedian Griffin Sciarra is coming to Brewskies Downtown along with Jeff Toy, Mandee McKelvey, Alex Eakin, Kyle Kemper, and David Brooks for a night of comedy. The show starts at 9 p.m. Tickets are $5 for regular and $10 for VIP.


Saturday, September 4

Farmers Market – The Seymour Area Farmers Market will be open from 8 a.m. to noon in the Walnut Street Parking Lot.

Forever Young Ride – The fourth annual Forever Young Ride event will take place at 9 a.m. at Shields Park. The cost is $20 per car or bike. The event will include music, snacks, a 50/50 raffle and other raffles. The ride will start at 11 a.m. Proceeds will go toward Seymour Community School Corporation students in need of food.

Labor Day Fun – Starve Hollow State Recreation Area will celebrate Labor Day with an event on September 4. Here’s the schedule: 10 a.m.: Guided Kayak Tour (Meet at boathouse); 2 p.m.: Water Balloon Launch Game; 4 p.m.: Chalk Critters Any child under 12 must be accompanied by an adult to the Forest Education Center at all times. Swimming will close after Labor Day.

Bluegrass – The Norman Conservation Club is hosting bluegrass music from 5 to 9 p.m. The night will feature music by Hickory Wind, Indiana Rail, Rocky Branch, and Left Field.

Tee Time –The annual Night Golf Scramble at Hickory Hills Golf course will begin at 6 p.m. at the course in Brownstown. Nine holes will be played in the light and nine will be played in the dark. The teams will be selected before the start.

Brownstown Speedway – The race will start around 6 p.m. at the Brownstown Speedway and will feature pro late models, modifieds, super stocks, crown vics. Order tickets by calling 603-501-0517 or get them at the gate.

Live Music at Rails – The Lonesome Troubadour will perform from 6 to 8 p.m. at Rails Craft Brew and Eatery.

Live Music at Poplar Street – Dave and Whitney Campbell will perform at 7 p.m. at Poplar Street Restaurant.

Live Music at Harmony Park – Meat and Potatoes will play from 7 to 10 p.m. at Harmony Park.

Live Music at Jackson Live – Keepin’ It Country series will begin at 7 p.m. at Jackson Live. Tickets are available by calling 812-521-1282. Brad Magness, Tommy and Heather Henson and more will perform.

‘New York’ – Actors Community Theater of Seymour will present ‘New York’ during a show at 7:30 p.m. Shows also are on schedule for September 10, 12.

Movie Night – Tiemeyer’s Farm Market will show Hocus Pocus out at the market in Vallonia. It starts at dusk.


Tuesday, September 7

Open Mic Night – Open Mic Night will take place at 6:30 p.m. at Harmony Park.

Fall Fun Night – Fall Fun Night will be from 7 to 9 p.m .at Schneider Nursery. The group will be potting up a mum and accent plants in a faux basket planter. This month’s girly cocktail will be sangria, with fall flavored finger foods. This event is for those 21 and older. Order Tickets by clicking here.

Friday, September 10

Fall Open House – Jubilee Flowers & Gifts will host its Fall Open House from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The open house will feature fall wreaths, lanterns, candles, monument caps and home decor. Everyday items will be on sale as well – Myra purses, ambre perfume, bass farms lotion, Fountain Alley bath products, beautiful house plants, Volcano & Swan Creek candles, jewelry and more. Take advantage of discounts, door prizes, apple cider and treats while you shop.

Country Neighbors ‘Reap the Harvest’ – The Country Neighbors’ ‘Reap the Harvest’ Tour is from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. September 10 and 11 at various home-based businesses in Jackson and Lawrence counties.  Stop by the Jackson County Visitor Center for a brochure or find more on the Country Neighbors’ Facebook page.

History Center Meal – The Jackson County History Center is offering a drive-thru fundraiser at 11 a.m. Friday and Saturday at its campus, 105 North Sugar Street, Brownstown. Get a pork burger, chips, a cookie and a drink for $7 by pulling up to the curb in front of the livery barn.

Tee Time – The City of Seymour Parks and Recreation Department will host the first Putting for the Parks at 1 p.m. at Shadowood Golf Course.

Live Music at Harmony Park – Rich Hampton will perform from 6 to 9 p.m. at Harmony Park.

Summer Concert Series – Alex Williams will play at 7 p.m. at Heritage Park for Brownstown Ewing Main Street’s final concert for the 2021 summer series. Justyn Underwood also will play. Junkyard BBQ will serve food and Salt Creek Brewery will have drinks.

Live Music at Jackson Live – Exile will perform for 7 p.m. at Jackson Live. Formed in 1963, you know them for their 1978 hit Kiss You All Over. This band started as a successful rock band before transitioning into a respectable country music group. Tickets are available by calling 812-521-1282.

BCHS Football – The Brownstown Central High School Braves football team will host Eastern Pekin at 7 p.m. at Blevins Memorial Stadium.

Live Music at Poplar Street – Brian Hopkins will perform at 7 p.m. at Poplar Street Restaurant.

‘New York’ – Actors Community Theater of Seymour will present ‘New York’ during a show at 7:30 p.m. The final show will be offered September 12.

Live Music at the Eagles – Gene Gillham will perform at 7:30 p.m. at the Fraternal Order of the Eagles.

Live Music at On the Rox – Fred and Steve will perform at 8 p.m. at On the Rox.


Saturday, September 11

Farmers Market – The Seymour Area Farmers Market will be open from 8 a.m. to noon in the Walnut Street Parking Lot.

9/11 Memorial Service –The city of Seymour will mark the 20th anniversary of 9/11 with a public ceremony at 8:30 a.m. at Shields Park near the bandstand. The ceremony will last less than an hour and will include music, speakers and prayer. The Seymour Fire Department will present the flags, and there will be two moments of silence, one to signal when the first tower was hit and the second for the second tower. To pay tribute to those lives taken, 2,977 flags will be placed in the park by local boy scouts before the ceremony. Seymour Mayor Matt Nicholson and Fire Chief Brad Lucas will serve as speakers.

Archaeology Day – Starve Hollow State Recreation Area will host Archaeology Day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. You can learn about our Indiana heritage and see cool artifacts from the past.  View tools that were used to construct Starve Hollow Lake and learn how we have advanced to the present day. Retired Indiana Conservation Officer Phil Nale and Indiana State Forest Archaeologist AJ Ariens will be there from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. to share information and artifacts. You can see native American artifacts that have been found in different regions of Indiana as have your own artifacts identified.

Bi-Monthly Book Sale – The Friends of the Jackson County Public Library will host its bi-monthly book sale from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the library location in Seymour.

Emanuel Lutheran Church Fall dinner – Join Emanuel Lutheran Church in Dudleytown for a homemade meal during its Grab & Go Cookout! Choose from a tenderloin sandwich or pork burger along with baked beans, baked potato, coleslaw, and dessert. There also will be a silent auction on the church’s Facebook page. Euchre Tournament – The Pershing Township Lions Club will host a soup supper and euchre tournament at 4:30 p.m. The tournament will start at 7 p.m. It’s $5 for the meal and $5 to participate in the tournament. The menu includes chili, bean soup, potato soup, hot dogs and homemade desserts.

Live Music at Harmony Park – Jacob Cruser will perform from 6 to 9 p.m. at Harmony Park.

Cloudy Days – Forecasting Hope – The “Cloudy Days-Forecasting Hope” drive-thru display of luminaria bags in honor or memory of loved ones is in the parking lot at First Baptist Church in Seymour from 6 to 9 pm on Saturday, September 11. Names will be read at the top and bottom of each hour: 6, 6:30, 7, 7:30, 8, 8:30 & 9 pm. Visitors are encouraged to park before or after driving or walking through to listen to the names being read.

Chamber Dinner – The 90th annual Jackson County Chamber will take place at 5:45 p.m. at 1155 A Avenue in Seymour. It is Drive-in style and the program will begin at 6 p.m.

City Jam – The Nashville Yacht Club will perform at 6:30 p.m. at Crossroads Community Park as part of Seymour Main Street’s final City Jam of the summer. Food and drinks will begin at 6 p.m.


Friday, September 17

BCHS Football – The Brownstown Central High School Braves football team will host North Harrison at 7 p.m. at Blevins Memorial Stadium.

SHS Football – The Seymour High School Owls football team will host Bedford North Lawrence at 7 p.m. at Bulleit Stadium.

Live Music at Harmony Park – The Margaret Brown Experience will perform from at 7 p.m. at Harmony Park.

‘The Gods of Comedy’ – Jackson County Community Theatre will offer its first show of the season with the ‘The Gods of Comedy’. Shows are at 7:30 p.m. September 17, 18, 19, 24, 25 at the Royal-Off-the-Square Theatre in Brownstown. (The show on the 19th is a 2:30 p.m. Matinee.) Ticket information here.

Saturday, September 18

Farmers Market – The Seymour Area Farmers Market will be open from 8 a.m. to noon in the Walnut Street Parking Lot.

Ride – The Memorial Ride and Poker Run for Mike Fink will be at noon. The will be dinner, a silent auction, 50/50 drawing, and live music.

Kilnfest – Kilnfest is scheduled for noon to midnight Sept. 18 at the former Medora Brick Plant, 8202 E. County Road 425S, Medora. The festival will feature live music, a tribute to “Hee Haw,” door prizes, raffles, auction, vendors, flea market, children’s games and more.

Jeep Ride – The Anchor House Jeep Ride is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. (registration time) at Heritage Park in Brownstown. The ride will begin at 2 p.m. Pre-register price is $45 and day-of is $50 per vehicle. The silent auction will begin at 5 p.m. and there also will be a live auction. Food trucks and Lonesome Crow will be at the event as well.

BBQ Chicken Dinner – The Hamilton Township Volunteer Fire Department will offer a drive thru chicken BBQ dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. at the station, 6843 North County Road 400E, Seymour. There will be chicken, pork burgers, baked potato, apple sauce and drinks. All proceeds go to the department.

Star Gazing – Starve Hollow State Recreation Area will host a star gazing event at 10 p.m. at the Forest Education Center. Learn basic astronomy and look for constellations while listening for the call of a screech owl, the wind through the Tulip Poplar trees, and more.  Please bring a blanket or chair to sit on.


Sunday, September 19

‘The Gods of Comedy’ – Jackson County Community Theatre will offer its first show of the season with the ‘The Gods of Comedy’. The show is at 2:30 p.m. at the Royal-Off-the-Square Theatre in Brownstown. Shows on September 24, 25 are at 7:30 p.m.) Ticket information here.

The Steel Wheels Live – Seymour Crossroads Entertainment will present The Steel Wheels during a performance at 4 p.m. at 1155 A Avenue, Seymour.

Icebreaker – The Brownstown Speedway will finish the Indiana Icebreaker that was postponed due to weather earlier in the year. The race will start with the Late Model B-Main #1, with 2 laps complete.


Friday, September 24

Hen and Chicks – The Hen and Chicks Fall Barn Market is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Three Bin Farm, 5602 East County Road 100N, Seymour.

Brownstown Speedway – The Bowman 50 will start around 6 p.m. at the Brownstown Speedway and will feature pro late models, modifieds, super stocks, crown vics. Order tickets by calling 603-501-0517 or get them at the gate.

Jackson Bowl – The Seymour High School Owls football team will host the Brownstown Central Braves for the annual Jackson Bowl at 7 pm. at Bulleit Stadium.

Wrestling – Description:Supreme Wrestling will host the Conqueror of Crossroads during a match at 7 p.m. September 24 at the Knights of Columbus in Seymour.  Tickets are $12 at the door, with children 5 and under getting free admission.  Doors open at 6 p.m. Order Tickets Here.

Scarecrow Day – Starve Hollow State Recreation Area is hosting Scarecrow Day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Celebrate the arrival of autumn by making your own scarecrow and decorating your campsite to enter to win cool prizes! 10 a.m.: Build a Family Scarecrow; 2 p.m.: Scarecrow craft;

Hen and Chicks – The Hen and Chicks Fall Barn Market is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Three Bin Farm, 5602 East County Road 100N, Seymour.

Jackson 100 – The 42nd annual Jackson 100 will start around 6 p.m. at the Brownstown Speedway and will feature pro late models, modifieds, super stocks, crown vics. Order tickets by calling 603-501-0517 or get them at the gate. There’s $20,000 to win.

Live Music at Rockford Ridge – Justin Clark and Soul Shine will play from 6 to 9 p.m. on the lawn at Rockford Ridge for Ridgefest. Get dinner until 7 p.m. and enjoy the music. Bring lawn chairs and blankets.

Seymour Oktoberfest – The streets of downtown Seymour will be converted into a Bavarian theme as the Seymour Oktoberfest returns. It’s from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. September 30-October 2 in downtown Seymour.
