Your Guide to the Weekend – 9/1-9/2

Labor Day weekend is the official fair well bid to summer, and what a memorable one we had in Jackson County! But the fun is just beginning! Take a look at this weekend’s events.

Friday, September 1

Holiday Open House – Heartland Home Decor will host its Holiday Open House featuring Fall and Christmas merchandise from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. September 1, at the store, 5028 North U.S. 31, Seymour. There will be sales and giveaways at the event.

Live music at Chateau de Pique – Dose Slager will play at 6 p.m. September 1, at Chateau de Pique Winery & Brewery, 6361 North County Road 760E, Seymour.

Live music at Harmony Park – Buck & Rooster will play at 6:30 p.m. September 1, at Harmony Park, 753 West Second Street, Seymour.

Friday Night Live – Bad Medicine will play the final show of SICA’s Friday Night Live at 7 p.m. September 1, at SICA 2001 North Ewing Street, Seymour. 

Live music at Poplar Street – Doug Dillman will play at 7 p.m. September 1, at Poplar Street Restaurant, 513 South Poplar Street, Seymour.


Saturday, September 2

Seymour Area Farmers Market – The Seymour Area Farmers Market will operate from 8 a.m. to noon September 2, at the farmers market parking lot off Walnut Street.

Freeman Army Airfield Museum – The Freeman Army Airfield Museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. September 2, at 1035 A Avenue, Seymour.

Labor Day Bash – Starve Hollow State Recreation Area will host a Labor Day Bash from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. September 2, at the park in Vallonia. The event will include carnival games, prizes, entertainment, Schocke’s Meats and Kona Ice. Schocke’s Meats will be available until 7 p.m.

Fundraiser – The Houston Fall Festival committee will be selling pork burgers from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the courthouse square in Brownstown. The committee will be set up at the corner of U.S. 50 and Cross Street.

Girl Scouts Event – The Life is S’more Fun in Girls Scouts event will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. September 2, at the Seymour location of the Jackson County Public Library, 303 West Second Street, Seymour. Those who attend will learn about Girl Scouts, and girls will receive a drawstring camp bag, a s’mores craft, a marshmallow game, and more. Information: 812-216-7135.

Food Truck Saturday – Food Truck Saturdays will be from 4 to 8 p.m. September 2, at Shields Park in Seymour.  There will be music during the event with 10% or $50 of sales going to the Seymour Parks and Recreation Department for programming.

Race – Brownstown Speedway race will feature ILMS Pro Late Models plus Super Stocks, Pure Stocks, Hornets, Crown Vics.   Click here for the website for all details and tickets.

Seymour Slam – Supreme Wrestling will host the Seymour Slam at 6:30 p.m. September 2, at Harmony Park, 753 West Second Street, Seymour. Proceeds will go to the Christmas meal program. It’s $10 for general admission, and $15 for VIP.

Live music at Side Track’d – Noah Reynolds will play at 7 p.m. September 2, at Side Track’d, 1115 West Spring Street, Brownstown.

Nature Explorer’s Club – The Nature Explorer’s Club meet at 5 p.m. September 2, at the Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge, Seymour. The group meets each week for 12 weeks with a different theme, story, snack, song, activity, hike, journal, and play. Click here to sign up.
